BICUC CFM Scholarship

 

 

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

This scholarship is available to BICUC members who have been a member of IFMA for a minimum of three (3) years and a BICU Council member a minimum of one (1) year.  The one time scholarship covers the exam fee and the CFM exam review study set.  Applicants must not receive financial support for the CFM exam fee and/or study set from any other source.  Candidates must first meet the education and experience requirements outlined in the box below. 

 

Certification Requirements

1.     Candidates must fall into one of the following education or work experience categories:

Education

Years of FM experience

Facility management master’s or bachelor’s
degree from an IFMA recognized program*

3 years

Related bachelor’s degree*

4 years

Non-related bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree*

5 years

Some post-secondary education*

8 years

* All categories require some form of continuing education within the past five years.

2.     Successful candidates will also have experience in the following competency areas. These nine areas have been identified as the core areas of skills and knowledge necessary for a successful facility manager.

Planning & project management                           Operations & maintenance

Real estate                                                         Quality assessment & innovation

Leadership and management                                Human & environmental factors

Finance                                                              Communication

Technology

Ideally, candidates should have experience in all nine areas; however, it is possible for a candidate to have experience in most competency areas, minimal exposure to others and still pass the exam.

Qualified candidates meeting the above education and experience requirements are to complete the BICUC Scholarship Application Form for review and verification.

 

CFM Self Assessment

Recipients of this scholarship are encourage, but not required, to complete the on-line CFM Self Assessment   The BICUC will not reimburse the cost of the self assessment test.

 

Application Process

Send completed Scholarship applications to Vanessa Koller, Council Liaison at vanessa.koller@ifma.org.  The BICUC Scholarship and Sponsorship Committee will review the application for verification.  Upon approval by the BICUC Scholarship and Sponsorship Committee, the member will be given specific instructions for completing the on-line application for the certification exam.

 

CFM Exam Review Study Set

Recipients of this scholarship will receive the CFM exam review study set upon application approval by IFMA.

 

Exam Eligibility

Once the on-line application is submitted and approved by IFMA, you will be given eligibility period in which you must take the exam.  The eligibility period is approximately 90 days from the application approval date.  IFMA will notify the BICUC that you have been approved and council will order the CFM exam review study set on your behalf, which will be sent directly to you.  In the event you are not ready to take the exam by the end of the eligibility period, contact IFMA and request an extension.  They often will allow an additional 90-day eligibility period.

 

One Time Scholarship

The BICUC CFM Scholarship may only be awarded once per member. If a Scholarship recipient were unsuccessful in their first attempt at the CFM exam, they are encouraged to retake the exam when they feel adequately prepared. However, such member may not apply for a BICUC CFM Scholarship to help with additional exam retakes.
